Pre-K: Where

Pre-k at my child’s childcare provider

Two out of every three Vermont preschool age children are in childcare, so it only makes sense to deliver preschool services where the children are. From a developmental perspective, children should have a continuity of childcare without transporting them from place to place. At the same time, children’s experience in high quality preschool at their childcare site influences their successful transition to Kindergarten.

However, some childcare situations are not prepared to effectively address the developmental and learning needs of the children in their care because they don’t have the financial resources to provide a high quality preschool program.

Pre-k at our local school

Some school districts choose to provide preschool programs at the local elementary school. Vermont currently does not have a statewide comprehensive listing of prek programs – in order to figure out if your community has prek at the elementary school, parents should call the school.

Other pre-k options

In addition to prek programs being based with child care providers or with elementary schools, there are also privately run preschools.
